BI-Industrial Completes Construction of Bakerton Plant in Petropavlovsk

BI-Industrial has completed the construction of a new Bakerton plant for the production of donuts and long-shelf-life bakery products in Petropavlovsk. The facility, covering approximately 17,000 square meters, is located within the Qyzyljar Special Economic Zone.

The new production facility has a design capacity of approximately 13,000 tonnes of products per year and is expected to create around 380 permanent jobs.

The BI-Industrial team constructed the main production building, installed internal and external engineering systems and the necessary utility connections, developed the supporting infrastructure, landscaped the site, and carried out a comprehensive range of commissioning works for the engineering systems.

Several figures illustrate the scale of the project: approximately 4,300 cubic meters of concrete works were completed, and around 1,950 tonnes of steel structures were installed. At the peak of construction, up to 218 specialists were working on site simultaneously.

One of the project’s key features was the stringent requirements for food production facilities. Simply constructing a warm and airtight building was not enough. The team had to create a controlled production environment in which even individual construction solutions contribute to maintaining the required sanitary standards.

For example, sandwich panels in the production areas were installed vertically to minimize the number of horizontal joints and surfaces where dust could accumulate. At wall-to-floor junctions, conventional corners were replaced with smooth, rounded transitions to make sanitary cleaning easier.

The team paid particular attention to the airtightness of the building’s internal envelope. Joints, connections, and ceiling panels were additionally sealed to maintain stable temperature conditions required for the production process. Exposed metal structures, protruding elements, and hard-to-reach areas were also minimized throughout the production premises.

“In food production, construction quality is directly linked to the future manufacturing process. Every detail matters, down to individual joints and connections. Our task was therefore not simply to construct a production building, but to create a fully prepared engineering environment for the installation and launch of the client’s production technology,” said Gabiden Yensebayev, Project Manager at BI-Industrial.

BI-Industrial specialists used 3D modeling to coordinate structural elements and engineering systems. This made it possible to align different systems in advance and work through technical solutions before the corresponding work was carried out on site.

The production line equipment was procured by the client and installed by specialized suppliers. BI-Industrial ensured that the facility was fully prepared from a construction and engineering perspective for equipment integration and the subsequent launch of production.

Bakerton has become another industrial project in BI-Industrial’s portfolio.
